Chertan
Chertan, operating out of Alotau, is a 60-foot luxury yacht cruising the blue clear waters of Milne Bay and beyond. The purpose-built liveaboard can accommodate up to twelve dive enthusiasts in six cabins with two shared bathrooms. Captain Rob van der Loos has been diving the uncharted waters of Milne Bay for over thirty years and is eager to show you the magnificent underwater wonders of the area. Equally special is the ambiance onboard where the crew's priority is your comfort and enjoyment.
Amenities
Chertan’s cabins are all air-conditioned and feature a lower double bed and upper bunk as well as in-cabin sinks and storage space. Dual dive ladders with a large dive platform make diving from the vessel easy. Onboard you will find a comfortable dining area, both 240 and 110 volt outlets for charging your camera gear and plenty of room to work with your cameras on at the camera table on the dive deck. Chertan is also equipped with satellite communication system.
Activities
A cruise onboard Chertan offers unlimited diving as well as an introduction to the local cultures. The itineraries are all about adventures, challenge and discovery that few have experienced. From dugouts to dugongs, from plunging coral drop-offs to towering volcanic mountains, skull caves and thermal springs, from hammerhead sharks to manta rays, the region is truly unique. After diving to your heart’s content, you will appreciate the fresh delicious meals that feature local produce and other specialties.
Diving
Milne Bay offers one of the finest scuba diving experiences in Papua New Guinea and the world. Come here to discover some of nature’s most unusual creatures. From tiny shrimp and soft coral to large pelagics, the area is known for excellent photo opportunities. Water temperatures vary from 77°F to 84°F depending on the season. Chertan dives all year around with the exception of February when strong winds are common. Most dive sites are fairly easy diving with little or no current. Diving is at your discretion, only controlled by your dive computer and traveling time.
General
Divers should provide all their own personal equipment including a BC, regulator, mask, fins, snorkel, computer and gauges. The vessel supplies tanks, weights and weight belts. As many of the dives sites are in very remote locations, dive insurance is mandatory. Chertan does not accept credit cards.
