Andersson's Camp by Mike MyersThere are twenty tented units among the mopane woodland typical to the area. The tents are a clever mix of calcrete stone cladding, canvas and wood each elevated on wooden decks. These unusual, organic-style tents have double-door entrances and a small veranda for uninterrupted views. The private bathrooms feature a uniquely designed open-air private shower. This model of eco-sensitive lodging provides an authentic, safe and down-to-earth experience for small groups, families and independent travelers to Etosha and is easily accessible by road. Energy-saving initiatives include solar-heated water for showers, while throughout the camp most of the natural vegetation has been retained.

Ongava Tented Camp

Ongava Tented Camp by Dana AllenOngava Tented Camp is Etosha National Park's best-kept secret, tucked into a hidden valley at the foot of a dolomite hill in the privately-owned Ongava Game Reserve. Etosha means 'great white place' — the name comes from its immense salt pan stretches blinding white across further than the eye can see. A few rivers and occasional heavy summer rains can fill the pan — and in good years attracting more than a million flamingos — but for the most part it is parched and dry. The pan’s edges give way to a surprising variety from the tall tree canopies of the tamboti and terminalia woodland in the east, to the broad swath of mopane that envelops the broader area and the open acacia-strewn plains, grasslands and dwarf shrub savannah in the west.

Ongava Tented Camp by Dana AllenOngava Tented Camp, built of stone, canvas and thatch, accommodates sixteen guests in eight large comfortable tents all with private bathrooms, open air showers and their own verandas. The family unit sleeps four. This camp offers private luxury, great company, delicious food and an original African wildlife experience without the crowds.

The low dolomite hills called Ondundozonanandana Range provide relief to the otherwise flat surroundings and harbor populations of the endemic Anchieta's dwarf python and the local subspecies of rock hyrax. Game here includes springbok, gemsbok, wildebeest, Burchell's zebra, Hartmann's mountain zebra, waterbuck, red hartebeest, giraffe, eland and the endemic black-faced impala. Elephant and lion move between the park and the reserve and both black and white rhino can be seen. Birdlife in Ongava Reserve is prolific with over 340 species to be seen, including bare-cheeked babble, violet wood-hoopoe, Carp’s tit and red-necked falcon.
